I don’t know the majority of the people who visit this blog and I’m quite glad that I don’t when I’m going to talk about crushes. But not crushes that I currently have (how long have you got?) but the ones I used to daydream about years ago. Some unfortunatly more recent than others. So, laugh and say ‘whaaaa?’ or even nod in agreement. Here are the 10 crushes I remember from my earlier years. Mostly pre-teen years.

1. Drake Bell.

drake-bell1

We got Nickelodeon just so I could watch Drake and Josh more than once a week on Ministry of Mayhem the show that replaced SM:TV Live. So, I was about 13 and I watched Drake and Josh and fell in love with Drake Bell. I can’t see the appeal now but back then I was bestotted with him. I liked that he was funny and a musician. This love went to new levels when I watched the episode where he and Josh performed the Blue Brothers’ Soul Man. Why? The suit, the sunglasses, the voice. I could go on and on. I’d watch this show religiously every Saturday morning until like I said, Mum gave in to me constantly moaning about not having Nickelodeon or Disney and subscribed to the channels. I’ll admit, I think although getting the channel satified my want, it sort of turned into overkill.

NickH102. Nicholas Hoult.

Probably the first time I realised I had a weakness for guys with dark hair and blue eyes. I thought he was adorable in About A Boy with the cornflake bowl haircut and the bhutanese herdsmen helmet and the knitwear but then he went off to do Star. Star was cheesy and stupid now I think about it. It was about a boy (Nick) who was a teenage actor and had to go to school with the normal kids and used to rock up to school in a limousine. Anyway, that crush lasted until he started appearing in Skins. I wouldn’t make an exception there. Even if he spent much of the series in next to nothing.

Is it wrong to crush on cartoon characters? Well, anime…

Heero3. Heero - Gundam Wing.

I know, its embarrassing, he wasn’t even real! Probably my only cartoon crush. I loved that show, it was kind of like Transformers with the giant robots. But more about the insane feelings for something drawn by artists. As far as I can remember, Heero was the main character and the captain or something of the Wing Gundam. I thought he was made of awesome and I loved his hairstyle which nowadays is more common out there in the real world but back then he was the epitome of cool to me. I always thought it would be amazing to be able pilot robots. Shhh. I was about 10 and just starting to take notice of boys. Pityful that the first object of my affection was an anime character.

childrens00s_kerching_gal4. Taj – Kerching!

Taj was a cool guy. He ran his own website Rudeboy from his bedroom to make £1M for his mother and brother. He had some strange mates and an arch enemy. Taj seemed a nice lad, he was in love with Ricardo’s girlfriend Tamsin but never had the chance to ask her out. Those scenes always had the live audience in the back going ‘awwwww’ and I was too.

16645. Togger – Grange Hill

Grange Hill was a staple part of my week. It was nice to sit down after school and watch a programme where the school is worse than the one I had to go to. Anywho, Togger was cheeky and a total trouble maker. I guess I liked him because he reminded me of a bad lad in my class who I quite fancied…

2343248699a4614872124l6. Tay - Bel’s Boys.

Right, this one is marginally more uncomfortable than the others because this one is more recent. As in three years ago recent. Dark haired, emotional, drummer with an Irish accent. Need I say anymore? Apparently, Bel’s Boys are a real band, who’d have thunk it.

Picture 17. Michael Moscovitz – Princess Diaries.

Before Pine, there was Carmine. Robert Carmine or Michael Moscovitz. The fringe in the eyes, the penchant for rock and roll. If its possible to be in love with a character in a book, I only wanted to see this film to see if they made Michael as much of a prince charming as Mia had described him. Needless to say,  I was satisfied with the adaptation (except for a LOAD of stuff they missed out, I mean WTF?! Grandmere is horrible in the books not Maria Von Trapp-like and as for the second film, don’t even get me started. Mia never had to get married and she was still with Michael and not the guy trying to steal her crown.)

18. Cadet Major Brad Rigby – Cadet Kelly

Blue eyes again. Army boy. If I could I would watch Cadet Kelly again and just stare at him. Just gorgeous. I didn’t like the film that much although thinking about it I must have liked something about it to have watched it 10 or 15 times. Disney original movies aren’t what they used to be.

9. Louis – Even Stevens

Before Shia LaBeouf went around crashing cars and over acting, he did his over acting on Even Stevens.  I actually can’t remember why I thought he was nice but it must have been the humour. I can’t think of anything else.

home_improv_brad_240x260_05282004152410. Brad – Home Improvement

Ah, who hasn’t had a crush on Zachary Ty Bryan? He was gorgeous the total American high school jock type. Blond hair in that style that was all the rage in the 90s. The boyband ‘curtains’ style which graced every heartthrob at some point during the 90s. Backstreet Boys and A1 come to mind.

I think that’s enough. There’ll be more trips down memory lane soon about boybands and probably more actors.

  1. Sorry, but I am really laughing at your bad, bad taste. Hehehe!! Although I agree on the Togger one, I had a secret crush on him too.

My very first proper crush was on Michael Owen, so I think I’ve always had good taste. Ignoring the Aaron Carter years….

Oh my God! You’ve read Princess Diaries, too??? LMFAO! I have every single one of those books, even ones like Holiday Princess. The end of the series was major, major fail. Now Meg Cabot writes chick lit about a girl having sex on a wine cask. See: Queen of Babble. I can’t decide where she was better off.

Probably my most embarrassing one was… Eric McCormack off Will & Grace. No idea why, but I guess thats what happens when you grow up with a sister 12 years your senior.

And I won’t laugh at your admiration of a guy off Gundam Wing if you won’t laugh at me for being giddy over Tuxedo Mask (was the guys name Darian or Damien? I can’t remember) from Sailor Moon :P

I don’t think the 5th one ever came close to the first four. I think she should have killed Mia off in the third. Those first three were the best. Mia Goes Fourth was okay but Give Me Five was failure. I gave up after that one.

I used to watch Sailor Moon in german. We used to have a satellite dish which got a lot of the European channels (so that meant free EPL/La Liga/Bundesliga/Erdivisie football for all) and one of the channels was german and showed Sailor Moon in the afternoon. My mum used to tape it for me to watch when I came back from school. I think his name was Damien. And he was cool too.
